At our shop, we spend our days surrounded by all kinds of amazing, gorgeous, funny, cute and comfortable socks. The socks we sell are anything but basic, so sometimes it's easy to forget that socks aren't just a fun accessory – they're a basic necessity. For homeless people, a clean, dry pair of socks in the winter meets one of the most basic human needs – warm, dry feet.
For the third year in a row, we'll will be taking part in a nationwide sock drive called Socktober by matching sales to donate a pair of socks to a person in need for each pair purchased October 24 to 28. These socks will go straight on to the feet of people who need them through community outreach organizations, including Opportunity Council of Whatcom County. That means that when you buy a pair of socks from us, you'll actually be buying two – one for you, and one for someone in need.
Footcare is one of the highest health priorities for those living on the street. Wet socks or no socks combined with freezing temperatures can cause pain and foot disease, conditions that are exacerbated by the long distances many homeless people walk each day.
Through our annual Socktober effort, we have donated hundreds of pairs of socks to those in need, and we couldn't have done it without your support! We want to make this year's drive even bigger and better. Please like and share this post to help us spread the word. Let's make this year the most sockcessful Socktober yet!
